Ohio Supreme Court Rules That Redrawn Districts are Constitutional

The Ohio Supreme Court recently ruled in a 4-3 decision that the state apportionment board’s 2011 redrawing of legislative districts for the Ohio General Assembly is constitutional. In the decision, the court found that the challenging party did not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the reapportionment plan is unconstitutional. The decision also found that that the Ohio Constitution itself “does not mandate political neutrality in the reapportionment of legislative districts” and that political factors were “considered only after the applicable constitutional and other legal requirements were met,” The Columbus Dispatch reports.
