FEC issues special election report notice for 8th Congressional District
On November 1, 2015, Governor John Kasich announced the dates for a special election to fill former U.S. House Speaker John Boehner’s seat in Ohio’s 8th Congressional District. A special primary election will be held on March 15, 2016, and a special general election will occur on June 7, 2016. The winner of the special election will serve through the remainder of Boehner’s term, until January 3, 2017.
Following the announcement of the special election, the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) issued a Special Election Report Notice outlining important filing dates and deadlines for the upcoming special election. Political committees – including candidate committees, political action committees (PACs) and party committees that make previously undisclosed contributions or expenditures in connection with a special election – must file reports with the FEC in connection with the special election.
The additional filing deadlines are:

Principal campaign committees are also required to file 48-hour notices if any authorized committee of the candidate receives any contribution (including in-kind contributions and loans) of $1,000 per source during the listed periods. These reports must be filed within 48 hours of receipt of the contribution. Campaign committees that file electronically must also file their 48-hour notices electronically.
