The Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) recently approved a reduction of premium rates for public employers in Ohio, thereby, saving $17.8 million in premiums for counties, cities and school districts. This reduction will be effective January 1, 2020, and follows an earlier rate reduction for public employers that went into effect January 1, 2019, as well as a 20 percent rate reduction for private employers that went into effect July 1, 2019.

Public employers should be aware that their premium rates may differ based on a variety of factors, such as recent claims history, the employer type or classification, and their participation in BWC rate discount programs.
