Zach Eddy receives 2018 New Attorney Pro Bono Award
Energy attorney Zach Eddy was recently recognized by the Legal Aid Society Columbus (LASC), the Columbus Bar Association and the Columbus Bar Foundation for his outstanding work with the Tenant Advocacy Project (TAP).
In response to the more than 19,000 evictions in Columbus each year, TAP, which is a new initiative of the LASC, was established in 2017 to provide onsite attorney presence at local eviction courts and to connect both landlords and tenants to resources that may remedy eviction and/or homelessness. The program would not exist without both attorney and non-attorney support, and Eddy has taken a leading role in ensuring Bricker & Eckler, as well as other local firms, play a role in this worthy cause.
Since 2018, Zach has committed over 180 hours to pro bono work. More than 100 of these hours were devoted to TAP initiatives, specifically to resolve an eviction/retaliation situation with several difficult factors. Nevertheless, Zach persevered with excellent preparation and care through every stage of the case, managing to get the settlement filed.
Upon being selected for the award, Zach expressed that he considers pro bono work not only a professional opportunity to refine his skills through firsthand experience but also an important passion. He is grateful that firm leadership supports and encourages his pro bono involvement.
The annual New Attorney Pro Bono Award is given to an outstanding new attorney dedicated to pro bono legal services, demonstrated through time and success on projects within the Columbus community. On October 25, Zach will attend the 2018 Pro Bono Reception, held at the Columbus Bar Association, to receive his award.
