Khouzam featured in CBA Lawyers Quarterly article on the post-pandemic legal landscape
Employment partner Marie-Joëlle C. Khouzam was among attorneys featured in the Columbus Bar Association’s Lawyers Quarterly Spring 2021 issue, speaking about the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and which areas of law practice will be in greatest demand in 2021.
Khouzam, who has been practicing employment law for nearly 30 years, said COVID-19 “had a significant impact on many [...] employer[s]", and that she saw her job as helping clients "corral and manage some of those challenges.” She noted the difficulty of needing to quickly “interpret, distill and distribute large quantities of information coming out of the federal government and to have answers to many interesting client questions.” The Department of Labor (DOL) sometimes updated information “before we’d even understood the last publication,” while the IRS “was publishing something that seemed to contradict or not align with what the DOL was saying. [...] [T]here were days that a Magic 8 ball might have been helpful," Khouzam quipped. She predicts that COVID-19 will continue to affect health care and employment law, and corporate restructures/refinancing issues throughout 2021 and beyond.
