Columbus Law Firm Bricker & Eckler Recognized for Outstanding Pro Bono Leadership
COLUMBUS, OHIO (May 7, 2013) – Bricker & Eckler LLP, a Columbus based law firm with two other Ohio offices, is the recipient of the Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation’s (“the Foundation”) 2013 Presidential Award for Pro Bono Service. The award will be presented tomorrow in Cleveland during the Ohio State Bar Association’s Annual Meeting and Convention.
The Presidential Award is presented annually to individuals, law firms or organizations that have made outstanding contributions to improving access to legal representation through pro bono or volunteer service to low income Ohioans.
The firm is being recognized for its pro bono legal work on behalf of low income Ohioans and nonprofit organizations that cannot afford to hire an attorney. In 2012, the firm donated over 1,500 hours in pro bono service and almost half the firm’s partners engaged in some type of pro bono legal work.
“At Bricker & Eckler, providing legal services to those in need is at the heart of our beliefs, and we all share a desire to improve access to justice for the people of our communities, regardless of their ability to pay,” said Faith Williams, administrative partner, who will accept the award. “This award is such an honor for our firm.”
Bricker & Eckler is “a textbook example of commitment to pro bono legal services,” said H. Ritchey Hollenbaugh, a partner in the Columbus law firm of Carlile, Patchen & Murphy LLP and the Foundation’s board president. “I’m delighted to present this year’s award to my colleagues and friends at Bricker & Eckler.”
The Foundation was established in 1994 to fund and to enhance civil legal aid for low income Ohioans. The Foundation uses no general revenue funds, but instead utilizes dollars earned from the interest on lawyers trust accounts, the interest on real estate trust accounts, and a civil filing fee surcharge to ensure that low income veterans, children, victims of domestic violence, and people facing foreclosure have access to legal information, advice and representation.
