Bricker welcomes 2020 Summer Associates

Five top law students have joined Bricker & Eckler for the 2020 summer associate program. Throughout their time with the firm, they will have an in-depth learning experience that provides exposure to the legal profession. They will do real client work, collaborate with practicing lawyers and participate in community service projects. The 2020 class includes Rebecca Joseph, Zeynep Kart, Caitlin Langfitt, Jordan Rowland and Wan Zhang.

Rebecca Joseph will start her second year of law school this fall at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and has an anticipated graduation date in May of 2022. Rebecca serves on the Student Bar Association as a senator and is a member of both the Black Law Students Association and the Asian Pacific American Law Student Association. She was the IL Representative for the ACLU last year and was also awarded Bricker’s 2020 Charles H. Walker Diversity & Inclusion Fellowship. Rebecca attended Ohio State for her undergraduate studies, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Hearing and Speech Sciences and was honored as a Morrill Scholar, which is Ohio State’s premier diversity/merit scholarship program. Her past work experience includes three years at Abercrombie & Fitch, where she was involved in designing and facilitating diversity and inclusion training, managing diversity-related public relations efforts and engaging senior leadership in global D&I initiatives.

Zeynep Kart is attending The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, with anticipated graduation in May of 2021. She is a membership editor for the Ohio State Journal on Dispute Resolution and has been an active member of the Immigration Law Society, the Black Law Students Association, the Latino Law Student Association and the Student Bar Association, as well as serving as a Moritz Student Ambassador. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree with Highest Distinction from Purdue University’s Honors College, majoring in economics and minoring in Spanish and psychology. Along with proficiency in Spanish, she is also fluent in Turkish. Prior to law school, she tutored and mentored students with City Year Columbus as an AmeriCorps Member. In addition to being a 2019 Bricker Summer Associate, Zeynep has clerked at Nationwide and with the Legal Aid Society of Columbus and worked as a 10th-grade instructor for the Law & Leadership Institute. In 2019, she was named a Human Service Chamber of Franklin County Fellow.

Caitlin Langfitt is going into her third year at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, with anticipated graduation in May of 2021. An Academic Merit Scholar, she is a co-creator and Executive Board Member of Ohio State’s Future Tech Law Organization, she was a Student Board Member for the Women Lawyers of Franklin County, and she was a staff editor of the Ohio State Business Law Journal. In addition, she serves as a research assistant for Professor Sarah Cole, editing and updating Mediation: Law, Policy and Practice. Caitlin has a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication, law, economics and government from American University, interning with NPR, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Environmental Law Institute while in college. She worked for Lockheed Martin in Washington, D.C., and for a tech firm and payment solutions company in Charlotte, North Carolina, before heading to Seattle to work for Microsoft’s Bing Maps division for three years prior to law school. Last summer, she was a legal intern with the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office’s Civil Division.

Jordan Rowland is a dean’s list student and a presidential scholarship recipient at Capital University Law School, with an anticipated graduation date in May of 2021. She has served as an ACLU 2L representative and as a peer advisor, and she is a former staff member and current editor-in-chief of the Capital University Law Review. She is also a member of the Criminal Law Association, First Generation Law Students and the Women’s Law Association. Jordan earned her Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laude in criminology, anthropology and psychology from The Ohio State University, where she was active in the Sociology/Criminology Club and the Block O Student Organization. Her work experience includes internships with the Ohio Department of Public Safety and the Ohio Attorney General’s Office during her undergraduate studies, clerking for the Franklin County Public Defender’s Juvenile Division, and working as a legal intern for OCLC during her second year of law school.

Wan Zhang will be a second-year student at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, with an anticipated graduation date in May of 2022. She is a member of the Asian Pacific American Law Student Association, the Business Law Society, the Health Law Society and the LLM/JD Buddies Program. Prior to law school, Wan was employed in the health care field, graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from The Ohio State University, and she was recognized as an honors graduate with research distinction in nursing. While studying for her nursing degree, she was a College of Nursing Student Ambassador and Senior Clinical Practice Leader and worked as a Medical Intensive Care Unit Student Nurse Assistant at OSU’s Wexner Medical Center. She also volunteered with the Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio and the Healthy Asian Youth Program. After graduation, Wan worked for three years as a Registered Nurse in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
