Bricker welcomes 2017 summer associates
The Summer Associate program at Bricker & Eckler is a long and valued tradition. This week, the firm welcomes seven new summer associates, with a diverse range of backgrounds, skills and interests to contribute to the firm’s program. The 2017 class includes: Tyler Compton, JhayTee Harrison, Devin Jacobs, Brooke Mangiarelli, Brandi Pikes, Eliza Sayedy and Andrea Witte.
Tyler Compton attends Ohio State’s Moritz College of Law, where he will be graduating in May 2018. While at OSU, he has served as Business Editor of the Ohio State Journal on Dispute Resolution and as Vice President of the school’s Sport and Entertainment Law Association. Ty earned his B.A. magna cum laude in Sports Management from Otterbein, where he was captain of the varsity football team and played on the varsity baseball team, in addition to earning Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors during his college career. For five years, Ty was co-owner of CompTwins Enterprises in Granville, working with local banks to maintain foreclosed homes for resale. During his previous summers, he worked for First Federal Savings and Loan in Newark, and he also worked as a law clerk for Brian Miller Co., LPA in Columbus.
JhayTee Harrison is a J.D. candidate at Ohio State’s Moritz College Law, and will graduate in May 2018. JhayTee is a Michael E. Moritz Scholar and Vice President of the school’s Black Law Students Association. She is also a managing editor of the Ohio State Journal on Dispute Resolution and serves as a legal research assistant. In addition, she is on the Emerging Professionals Committee as a member of Women for Economic and Leadership Development (WELD). Her prior experience includes a summer associate position in 2016 with Calfee, Halter & Griswold and interning as a legal assistant with SwagatUSA in Chicago, her hometown. Jhay Tee earned her B.A. magna cum laude in Political Science and Spanish from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she was also recognized by the school with several undergraduate honors.
Devin Jacobs studies law at George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C., and is set to earn his J.D. in May 2018. Devin is originally from Fishers, Indiana, and attended Indiana University – Bloomington, receiving a degree summa cum laude in Animal Behavior and minoring in Biology as a member of the university’s Hutton Honors College. At George Washington Law School, where he is a Presidential Scholarship recipient, Devin has served as a member of the Federal Circuit Bar Journal and is active in Lambda Law. He also served as Assistant Director of Diversity Affairs and Assistant Director of Technology for the Student Bar Association. His prior experience includes serving as a legal intern in the Special Proceedings Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
Brooke Mangiarelli attends Ohio State’s Moritz College of Law, and will graduate in May 2018. She has been a staff editor of the Ohio State Journal on Dispute Resolution and Publicity Director on the Public Interest Law Foundation Executive Board, as well as serving as a research assistant to Professor Margot Kaminski while in law school. Brooke also attended The Ohio State University for her undergraduate studies, earning a B.A. magna cum laude in International Relations and Diplomacy with a minor in Slavic & East European Languages and Cultures. Her prior experience includes a judicial externship with Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor and work as a legal assistant for the Nardone Law Group.
Brandi Pikes is currently working towards earning her law degree in May 2018, at Washington University School of Law in her hometown of St. Louis. She also has a Masters in Political Science from the University of Mississippi and a B.A. magna cum laude in Mass Communication from Alcorn State University. While in law school, Brandi has served as the Social Action Chairman of the Black Law Students Association and as Secretary of the National Bar Association’s Student Division. Her previous experience includes a summer associate position with Sandberg, Phoenix, and von Gontard in St. Louis, working as a law clerk at the MacArthur Justice Center in St. Louis, an employment law clerk position at the St. Louis Zoo, and a Leadership for Educational Equity Fellowship with the U.S. Department of Education in D.C. Brandi was an eighth grade English Language Arts Teacher in Jacksonville, Florida, for two years as part of the Teach for America program.
Eliza Sayedy is a student at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York and will earn her J.D. in May 2019. Prior to choosing a career in the legal field, Eliza was a chemistry teacher for seven years in Valley Stream, New York, instructing classes in both general and advanced chemistry. She also was a science coach for the Nassau County Science Olympiad, leading teams of students in engineering science models in the fields of robotics, environmental science and physics. Eliza has a B.A. in Chemistry from CUNY Queens College and a Masters in Teaching, Chemistry and Education and Post-Masters Certification from SUNY Stony Brook University. Proficient in both the Pashto and Farsi dialects of Afghanistan, she served in recent years as a volunteer assistant with Women for Afghan Women, helping to raise funds and increase awareness of the plight of women in Afghanistan.
Andrea Witte attends Ohio State’s Moritz College of Law, where she will earn her law degree in May of 2019. At law school, she is a member of the Business Law Society and the Mentoring and More @ Moritz Program. A Denison University alum, Andrea double majored in Economics and English Literature while also earning scholar athlete honors playing as a midfielder and captaining the varsity women’s soccer team. In addition, she was a summer intern with the university’s athletic department and was a student manager in the equipment room during her college career, supervising the work of athletic equipment staff. Andrea is very active in animal welfare organizations, including Cat Welfare and Second Chance Humane Society.
