Bricker serves as bond counsel for “2016 Midwest Region Deal of the Year”
The Bond Buyer recently awarded The Ohio State University its “2016 Deal of the Year: Midwest Region” honor for the University’s March 2016 bond issuance. Bricker & Eckler, led by Bill Conard, co-chair of the Public Finance group, served as bond counsel in this innovative financing.
As described in this short video, the University was “looking to streamline its market access as a major capital program a got underway” and “turned to a corporate-like structure in its filing of a $1 billion shelf registration which was tapped for a $600 million sale.” “The use of the shelf registration – which is believed to be a first for such a structure in the municipal market – established a base offering statement, streamlining the state flagship university’s market access by allowing it to move more quickly on deals to take advantage of favorable conditions or when project cash is needed while also keeping issuance cost down.”
Representatives from the University will attend the Deal of the Year awards on December 1, 2016, in New York City. They will compete with winners in seven other categories for the right to be named The Bond Buyer’s 2016 Deal of the Year.
This is the second Bond Buyer award given to the University. In 2012, it won the award for its parking concession transaction in the “Non-Traditional Financing Deal of the Year” category.
