Bricker announces 2018 Anniversary Gift recipients
Bricker & Eckler’s 2018 Anniversary Gift will be awarded to Habitat for Humanity MidOhio, the Center for Healthy Families and the Summer Work Experience in Law.
The first recipient, central Ohio’s arm of Habitat for Humanity International, helps families in need become homeowners by providing decent, affordable housing. Habitat for Humanity MidOhio recently launched its Habitat Housing Initiative to increase the number of families it serves each year. This gift will be used to support the Youth Educational Resource Room in the Family and Program Center. The room will provide a safe, educational space with new technology for the children of partner families, while parents complete Habitat homeowner requirements.
The Center for Healthy Families supports pregnant and parenting teens in central Ohio as they complete high school and pursue secondary education opportunities. This gift will help the organization host its annual “Achievement Ceremony,” a special event that celebrates the graduation of program participants and awards a scholarship to one graduate to assist with higher education costs. The gift will also support a data collection software system that tracks student achievement and progress.
Finally, the Summer Work Experience in Law (SWEL) establishes a pipeline within the legal profession for African-American and other racially diverse high school and college students with an interest in law. The program provides academic classes and paid summer work experience within a legal setting. This gift will be used to expand the program throughout the state of Ohio.
Each year, Bricker celebrates the firm’s founding by awarding up to $25,000 to one or more nonprofit organizations supporting a cause that will have a meaningful, long-lasting impact on the communities we serve. A longtime supporter of Ohio schools and educators, Bricker once again focused its 2018 donation on education-based initiatives. Many qualified charitable organizations submitted proposals, and the submissions this year were both impressive and inspiring.
