Bill Mason returns to Bricker & Eckler
William D. (Bill) Mason, former Cuyahoga County Chief of Staff and Prosecuting Attorney, has accepted a position in Bricker & Eckler’s Cleveland office, where he served as partner-in-charge before being appointed Chief of Staff for Cuyahoga County in 2019.
Mason returns to Bricker with an extensive background in public sector service. As Chief of Staff from 2019-2022, he was responsible for all of the operations of the Cuyahoga County government Executive Offices, including coordinating the planning, creation and operation of the first Diversion Center in the State of Ohio; creating and managing the implementation of the County’s first central booking system; and directing labor negotiations for 39 labor unions.
Prior to his first stint with Bricker from 2012-2019, he served as Cuyahoga County’s Assistant Prosecuting Attorney and then as its Prosecuting Attorney, where, over the course of 13 years, he created the Community Based Prosecution (CBP) Unit; oversaw a county-wide reform initiative to make the criminal justice system more effective and efficient; established the statewide Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and served as its chairman; and created the Cuyahoga County Forensic Crime Lab. In response to the foreclosure crisis, he helped establish the Cuyahoga County Mortgage Fraud Task Force.
While Mason was County Prosecutor, he also served as President of the Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association. Prior to his time with the County, he was Law Director for the City of Parma, Ohio.
Now back at Bricker, Mason’s focus is assisting public sector clients, including counties, school districts, municipalities and other governmental agencies, with economic development projects and bond financing. He also continues to serve as Receiver and Receiver’s Counsel in foreclosure and receivership actions.
On January 19, Bricker and Cincinnati-based law firm Graydon Head & Ritchey LLP announced plans to merge effective April 3, 2023. Once merged, the firm will operate under the name Bricker Graydon LLP, with offices in Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dayton, Marietta, Barnesville, Lebanon and Liberty Township, Ohio, as well as Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky and Lawrenceburg, Indiana.
