Clery & Title IX Drive-In Conference (Higher Education)
Please join the Ohio Five, in conjunction with Kenyon College and Bricker Graydon LLP for a Clery Act and Title IX training. Participants will have the opportunity to obtain their annual Clery Act training requirements and participate in interactive sessions that will target advanced topics with the goal of debriefing and demystifying the Title IX regulations.
This event is in-person only. Lunch will be provided for attendees. If you have dietary restrictions, please let us know in the comment box on the RSVP page.
Cost: Participants will be billed separately per client agreements.
AGENDA
There are two tracks available. All participants will attend the Annual Clery Training session and then split into two groups; one for investigators and one for hearing advisors and decision-makers.
9:00 - 10:30 AM | Annual Clery Training
This session will cover the required annual training requirements under the Clery Act. The training will cover issues regarding sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking as defined under the Clery Act and under the Title IX regulations. Additionally, the training will cover how to conduct an investigation and hearing process that protects the safety of victims and promotes accountability as required under the Clery Act regulations.
10:30 AM - 4:15 PM | Skills Sessions for Investigators, Advisors, and Decision-Makers
The remainder of the training includes a session that will cover: understanding and applying investigative techniques and procedures; exploring cross-examination theory and practice; applying the Title IX regulations’ use of relevancy; reviewing the hearing process including making relevancy decisions and the roles of the investigators, decision-makers, and advisors in the investigative and hearing process; discussing the written decision and how to objectively evaluate evidence; and being impartial and avoiding bias/conflict of interest. Investigators will complete a series of mock interviews and focus on report writing techniques. Hearing advisors and decision-makers will conduct a mock hearing with cross examination. These sessions will be interactive and skills-focused.
