RESCHEDULED: The Affordable Care Act for Schools Workshop
Butler County Educational Service Center
400 N Erie Blvd
Hamilton, OH 45011
Due to inclement weather, Bricker's Affordable Care Act Workshop had to be rescheduled. We apologize for the inconvenience. If you had previously registered for this event on March 25 and are unable to make the new date, please contact Rebekah Richards at (614) 227-4811 or rrichards@bricker.com.
Beginning in 2014, the "play or pay" provisions of the federal Affordable Care Act become effective. Under these provisions, school districts may be required to pay significant penalties if they fail to offer their full-time employees minimum essential health coverage or if they offer minimum essential health coverage but it is considered to be unaffordable or does not provide minimum value. Now is the time to begin assessing your district’s situation and planning for the future in order to avoid paying needless penalties and to implement strategies to control, to the extent possible, the district’s group health plan obligations.
At this seminar, you will learn the answers to questions such as:
-
Why is there a need to act now?
-
Who must be offered coverage?
-
What about substitute and contracted employees?
-
What is a stability period, look back period and administrative period, and why do I need to know?
-
How does this impact my collective bargaining agreements?
-
Does my group health plan comply with coverage requirements, is it “affordable” and does it provide minimum value?
Presenters include tax and employee benefits specialists Chris Poth and Peggy Baron, who have the expertise and knowledge of federal tax and benefits law that is so critical to understanding the implications of employers’ group health plan decisions. Joining them will be education attorney Dave Lampe, who has extensive experience at the bargaining table and understands the unique needs of school districts. Our team will give you the information and strategies you need to help your district avoid application of the penalties and to minimize your district’s group health plan costs.
