FEC regulations on presidential inauguration

As Inauguration Day draws closer, members of President-elect Trump’s inaugural committee must be aware of two important guidelines that the Federal Election Commission (FEC) uses to govern the presidential transition and inauguration. First, as noted 36 U.S.C. § 510(c), inaugural committee members may accept contributions from any entity — with the exception of foreign nationals. Additionally, as noted in 11 CFR 104.21, the inaugural committee is required to register with the FEC by letter and file a report 90 days post-inauguration. These regulations are a quadrennial expansion of the FEC’s typical jurisdiction of federal election financial matters.
