Compliance Connections

With all statewide races on the November 2018 ballot, Ohio candidates are traveling throughout the state to gain support for their campaigns. On January 31, 2018, all candidates were required to submit their 2017 Annual Campaign Finance Report to the Secretary of State. This report covers campaign finance activity through December 31, 2017.

The numbers corresponding to “contributions” indicate the amount of monetary contributions the campaign committee received from the date of the campaign committee’s last campaign finance report through December 31, 2017. However, campaign committees often “overreport” the contributions they receive and include contributions received through the date the campaign finance report is due, which in this case means some candidate committees’ reported the contributions they received through January 31, 2018.

The numbers corresponding with “balance on hand” show the total funds available to the campaign committee minus the campaign committee’s total monetary expenditures.
