Cincinnati-based, nationally recognized portrait painter Carl Samson has an interesting and purposeful art-and-health project underway, an eight by five foot mural on the theme of organ donation and transplantation. Carl traces his inspiration for the major figurative work to an experience twenty years ago when he saw a person he knew receive a “second chance” as Carl calls it because of organ donation. Working with the Life Center Organ Donation Network, Carl wants to use the painting to encourage organ donation. A work of this scale will require a lot of preparation work--drawing, composition, color studies, hiring of individuals to fine tune poses—and many hours to complete the final piece. If interested in helping Carl’s project, tax-deductible contributions can be made to Life Center Organ Donation Network, noting “Samson Painting Fund” on subject line and mailing to Samson Studios, 2152 Alpine Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45206.
Carl sees a connection between health and art, writing that “re-learning to see” the beauty of the natural world “contributes to one’s health and well-being.”
