Editorial cartooning has been in a slump, but hope has entered the stage, deus ex machina in a Greek tragedy. As daily newspapers re-invent themselves in the Digital Age, staff cartoonist jobs have been melting like polar ice caps. Stage entrance Trump, the best gift-from-above to editorial cartooning since Ross Perot. Any editorial cartoonist uninspired by this intervention should throw his/her sketchpad out the window and become an actuary. And then yesterday's Sarah Palin announcement!
