The Willard & Kelsey Solar Group, which once promised to be a leader of Ohio’s solar industry, closed its doors in Perrysburg last month, leaving behind numerous pending lawsuits and outstanding loans as its only unfinished business, The Toledo Blade reports. The company received $10.5 million in state economic development assistance, including a $5 million loan and a $500,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Development, as well as a $5 million loan from the Ohio Air Quality Development Authority. Ohio Tax Credit Authority records, however, show that at its peak, Willard & Kelsey had created only 51 of the required 400 new jobs. In addition, the company has faced allegations of misused state funds. The company does not dispute that it owes millions of dollars to the State, but collectability of those funds remains uncertain, the article said.
