Despite the roadblocks created by the current setback requirements in Ohio (see our June 18, 2014 blog post), the developer of Long Prairie Wind Farm in northwest Ohio told Van Wert County Commissioners the project is moving forward, the Times Bulletin reports. Apex Clean Energy Developer “has been signing agreements with neighboring landowners to include them in the project and waive the stricter setback laws,” which would make it “possible to fit in the needed amount of turbines onto a site to make the windfarm viable cost-wise,” according to the article. Apex currently has 35,000 acres among eight or nine townships under lease; Scott Hawken, Director of Development for Apex, said Apex is excited about and committed to Ohio. For the Prairie Wind farm, Hawken said, “we’re focusing on three-megawatt [MW] machines,” with up to 150 turbines in the completed project. If the entire 450 MW is built, “that will translate into a $900 million investment into Van Wert County.” For more, read the full article.
