Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson and the staff of Cleveland Public Library’s Martin Luther King Jr. branch have picked the plan they’d like to see move forward for the northwestern side of University Circle, a plan called the University Circle City Center, reports Cleveland.com. The mayor’s office and library staff coordinated in soliciting proposals from developers, ultimately selecting a joint venture between Midwest Development Partners and the Orlean Co. that would bring 717 apartments, 150,000 square feet of retail and community space, outdoor gathering areas, office space and garages to the area, according to the article. Steve Rubin, a member of the development team, said, “[w]hat we’re proposing is to be able to turn this into a walkable area with two-sided retail, with residential above.” The project would include building a new facility for the library branch before the existing library is torn down. Now that the plan has been selected, “[r]equests to negotiate real estate deals and development agreements will head to the library’s board and Cleveland City Council later this month.” For more, read the full article.
