Tuscarawas County development leaders hope mock site visit will help them compete for future projects

“A great opportunity” is how Gary Little, executive director of the Tuscarawas County Community Improvement Corp., described a mock site visit from site selection professionals, according to the Times Reporter. Little said the exercise will help the group improve future presentations to site selectors or businesses. The visit by InSite Consultants owners Tonya Crist and Rob Cornwell is “one of the final steps in the Community Economic Development Academy, a program initiated and funded by AEP Ohio.” Tim Wells, manager, economic and business development for AEP, said, [h]elping our region’s economic development professionals understand the type of information needed and the decision-making processes used by site selectors will make us more competitive in attracting new businesses to the area.” The plan for the August 24 site visit included a presentation on the local economy and resources to be held in New Philadelphia’s Tuscarawas Regional Technology Park, followed by visits to the Newcomerstown Industrial Park and the former Tusco Grocers buildings in Dennison, and wrapping up with feedback from Crist and Cornwell critiquing the site visit.
