Thai company to spend $100 million on engineering for ‘cracker’ in eastern Ohio

Thailand's PTT Global Chemical says it will spend $100 million on engineering design work for a multi-billion dollar ethane “cracker’ plant that may be built in eastern Ohio’s Utica shale play, reports Shale Daily. The oil and gas news site says PTT Global Chemical CEO Supattanapong Punmeechaow, joined by Gov. John Kasich and state and local officials at a press conference, said the company has signed contracts with a consortium of engineering firms that will conduct preliminary design work and cost estimates for the facility at a site in Belmont County along the Ohio River. Punmeechaow said it will take up to a year to determine the economic feasibility of the project, and a final investment decision will not be made until 2016 or 2017. PTT is a partner in the project with Japan’s Marubeni Corp. For more, read the Shale Daily story.
