Older suburbs in the United States are now experiencing "poverty, unemployment, foreclosures, population losses, underfunded or failing schools and inadequate public services" to an extent heretofore seen mainly in inner cities, according to a recent report released by Cleveland State University. The researchers analyzed four of the "most distressed" suburbs in the nation as case studies, which included East Cleveland, Ohio. The report, titled "Revitalizing Distressed Older Suburbs," provides not only an in-depth analysis of the nature of the problem, but also a series of recommendations toward revitalizing these areas.
