A blueprint “laid out by ReImagine Appalachia, a national coalition of nonprofit organizations,” could create 235,000 jobs in Ohio over 10 years if it receives federal funding, according to a study by the Political Economy Research Institute, The Columbus Dispatch reports. Amanda Woodrum, a senior researcher at Policy Matters Ohio, “said the federal investment package would require a $9 billion annual allocation to Ohio and would leverage private-sector funds,” according to the article. The jobs would be short-term infrastructure jobs modernizing the state’s Appalachian electrical grid, expanding broadband infrastructure, repurposing shuttered coal plants and building a sustainable public transportation system.
