David B. Williams says his role as The Ohio State University’s Dean of Engineering goes hand in hand with his work promoting local economic development, The Columbus Dispatch reports. Williams not only sits on the board of Columbus 2020, the region’s economic development organization, but also helps recruit companies looking at the area by confidently conveying “the ability of the Columbus region to provide the bright minds sought by employers, especially those who need good engineers for manufacturing and other industrial processes,” according to The Dispatch. Williams says that universities “play a key role in providing the high-end technical workforce,” and he believes Columbus has a “very powerful leveraging tool” with its combination of population size, a flagship university and its position as the state capital. Columbus 2020 often asks Williams to meet with site selectors to “answer questions about the workforce,” and Williams says companies are “very impressed” with the state’s numbers, which say “we can bring a lot of power to bear to help attract companies.” For more, read the full article.
