The nonprofit organization JumpStart has plans for a new program that would help up to ten small businesses in the inner city each year, Crain’s Cleveland reports. JumpStart “plans to start a new fund that would make $20,000 investments into small businesses owned by minorities and low-income individuals,” according to the article. A $50,000 grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration would help fund free mentoring and office space for the companies. While program details haven’t been finalized, JumpStart spokeswoman Amy Martin said that the organization plans to release more information during the next month. JumpStart “is one of several local economic development groups that are looking for ways to create what they describe as ‘meaningful wage jobs’ — accessible jobs that give inner-city residents a chance to earn a solid paycheck and get started on a career path.” For more, read the full article.
