The latest expansion of Nationwide Children’s Hospital “will create 2,000 jobs in less than a decade and add an eight-story tower, office and research buildings and more parking to its sprawling campus,” The Columbus Dispatch reports. The $730 million project is also “the hospital’s latest step into the surrounding neighborhoods,” extending west along Livingston Avenue and crossing Interstate 70 to the north. The growth of Nationwide Children’s has already had significant impact on the surrounding areas; with funding from United Way of Central Ohio and the City of Columbus, the hospital has spent $17.4 million “to improve 215 homes on the South Side,” according to the article. Nationwide Children’s is paying for other neighborhood improvements, including $1.5 million on new playground equipment and basketball hoops at Livingston Park. The hospital discussed road improvements with the city, and the city accepted “$25 million in federal stimulus money to improve the intersection of Parsons and Livingston avenues.”
