National employment summary: May 2012

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released data today stating that nationally, non-farm payroll employment rose by 69,000 during the month of May, and the unemployment rate increased slightly from 8.1 percent last month to 8.2 percent. BLS noted that private sector employment rose in the areas of health care, transportation and warehousing, and wholesale trade, but declined in construction. Employment changed very little in most other major industries.

May 2012 unemployment rates and nonagricultural wage and salary data for Ohio will be released by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services (ODJFS) on Friday, June 15, 2012. This information and the monthly statistical summaries it is based on is available here.
