National employment summary: August 2012

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released data today stating that nationally, non-farm payroll employment rose by 96,000 during the month of August and the unemployment rate, 8.1 percent, decreased from last month’s 8.3 percent. BLS also noted that private sector employment rose in the areas of professional and technical services, food services and drinking places, and healthcare.

Ohio’s August 2012 unemployment rate and nonagricultural wage and salary data will be released by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services (ODJFS) on Friday, September 21, 2012. This information and the monthly statistical summaries on which it is based are available here.
