The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released data this past Friday stating that nationally, non-farm payroll employment edged up by 103,000 in September, and the unemployment rate held at 9.1 percent. BLS noted that the increase in employment partially reflected the return to work of about 45,000 telecommunications workers who were on strike in August. Health care, construction, professional, and business services continued to add jobs while governmental employment continued to trend downward.
