National Employment Summary: December 2011

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released data today stating that nationally, non-farm payroll employment rose by 200,000 in December, as the unemployment rate continued to slowly trend downward by 0.1 percent to 8.5 percent.  BLS noted that the increase in employment was due to continued private sector hiring in areas of transportation and warehousing, retail trade, manufacturing, health care and mining.

December 2011 unemployment rates and nonagricultural wage and salary data for Ohio will be released by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services (ODJFS) on Friday, January 20, 2012.  Ohio's unemployment rate in November was 8.5 percent, down from the month of October.
