More than $260K in grants and contributions will help make Port Authority land “shovel-ready”

Three grants totaling more than $160,000 will fund work necessary to make Monroe County Port Authority’s recently purchased 49-acre parcel near Clarington “more appealing to potential tenants,” the Monroe County Beacon reports. The largest grant, a $146,000 JobsOhio Revitalization Grant, “will fund a Phase 2 Environmental Study” that will determine “what, if any, remediation needs to be completed,” according to the article. During negotiations for the Port Authority’s purchase of the land, American Electric Power agreed to provide the additional $100,000 needed for that study. Two other grants of $10,000 each from “the competitive state-wide AEP LEAP Grant” and the Baker Foundation will pay for “the next round of design and engineering studies on what is necessary to supply water and sewage service” and “general site development costs,” respectively. Combined with “the Tax Increment Finance program recently established on the parcel” the grants will allow for work that “will definitely make the property more appealing to potential tenants,” according to Jason Hamman, Monroe County Economic Developer.
