Montgomery County Commissioners unveil plan to create Council of Governments

During a meeting of about 50 community advisors earlier this month, the Montgomery County Commission proposed the formation of a new legal entity called a Council of Governments (COG) that would serve as a “central place for communities to discuss ways to share services to cut costs,” Dayton Daily News reports. In addition to the county’s 28 jurisdictions, park districts, library systems and the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority may also be offered voluntary membership. Commissioners unveiled the plan to residents last week, and are now moving toward the selection of a steering committee that will include business and education leaders and elected officials, who will “develop a structure, charter and governing model for the council,” the article said.
