Lockheed Martin will close its Akron plant by mid-2015 as part of a company-wide consolidation plan

In the wake of federal government budget cuts, defense contractor Lockheed Martin has announced that it is consolidating certain operations in an effort to increase efficiency and the affordability of its products, The Business Journal reports. The San Francisco-based company is closing five locations and reducing its workforce by 4,000. Lockheed Martin’s Akron plant, which employs 500, will close by mid-2015 as part of this plan.
