When Dollar Shave Club was looking to locate its first fulfillment center east of California, the company knew the general area it needed to be in, but wasn’t sure “exactly what city we needed to be in,” according to Lori Jackson, director of operations and fulfillment, Columbus Business First reports. The company looked at “about 28 locations, including several in Central Ohio,” but Jackson’s previous experience working in Grove City as regional operations manager for Netflix Inc. gave that city an edge. “I know what the work ethic is like, the proximity to transportation services, the proximity from a labor-pool standpoint — the wealth of the labor pool is huge,” Jackson said. Financial incentives helped seal the deal; the building the company was interested in is “within a community reinvestment area, providing a 15-year, 100 percent tax abatement,” according to the article. At the recommendation of JobsOhio, “the state Tax Credit Authority . . . approved a 1.222 percent, 7-year tax credit for the creation of $5.83 million in new annual payroll.” Jackson called the incentives “hugely important,” saying, “I can’t say we absolutely would not be there, but I think it was a huge draw to be welcomed so nicely.” For more, read the full article.
