With some improvement projects already underway and others planned, Lawrence County Economic Development Corporation’s executive director Bill Dingus expects “a sizeable job increase” in the county this year, The Herald-Dispatch reports. Dingus cited improvements at South Point industrial park The Point, where a $1.3 million shell building is under construction “and could be ready in 60 days.” The Point director Jeremy Clay said the building “is being designed to accommodate the distribution or manufacturing industry” and to “handle a 20-ton crane or a number of distribution bays,” according to the article. Dingus expects a proposed $15 million to $20 million wellness center to break ground this year at The Point as well. Another proposed development site is the former Ironton Iron site; the Lawrence County Port Authority “has applied for a $2.4 million grant and loan” for that project. Dingus said the Rogersville shale, which he called “a sleeping giant,” could also provide more jobs. For more, read the full article.
