Fourth year of $200 million biotech investment in Cleveland and NE Ohio

Could Cleveland become the medical capital of the United States? After 2015 marked “the fourth year in a row that more than $200 million was invested in Cleveland and Northeast Ohio biotech companies,” BioEnterprise CEO Aram Nerpouni says it should, reports Cleveland.com. BioEnterprise is a Cleveland-based economic development agency that supports that “funding, networking and recruiting of bio tech enterprises in the region,” according to the article. BioEnterprise, founded in 2002 by the Cleveland Clinic, Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals, “sees between 200–250 biotech deals a year” that are “raising initial capital, follow-on funding or considering financial exits.” During 2015, there were numerous successes including “eight large financial exits,” among them the “region’s first $1 billion dollar exit — the acquisition of InvisionRx by RiteAid.” For more, read the full article
