Developers who helped transform the Flats’ east bank to partner with Independence

The city of Independence has formulated its vision for redeveloping two areas of the city, and now officials have partnered with the developers they believe will realize those plans, Cleveland.com reports. That vision includes “innovative housing options that do not currently exist in the area for young professionals, empty nesters and downsizers,” as well as retail, dining and entertainment options for “the downtown area on Brecksville Road and the northwest part of Rockside Road.” The mayor of Independence, Greg Kurtz, said, “Fairmount Properties is interested in developing both areas in a complimentary way that supports the aspirations articulated in the Area Plans,” which city officials drew up with input from residents. According to the article, Fairmount was “behind the transformation of the east bank of the Flats and downtown Kent.” Kurtz said Fairmount is “very, very excited to work in and with Independence,” and that the developers would like to begin downtown redevelopment in 2016.  For more, read the full article.
