Cuyahoga Falls plans to preserve historic integrity while stimulating downtown development

Two courses of action will combine to help preserve downtown Cuyahoga Falls’ “historic architectural character” while also encouraging new development, Ohio.com reports. Cuyahoga City Council has proposed a “downtown historic overlay district” and has “asked that the area also be named a Downtown National Register District,” which would offer investors “the potential for special state and federal tax credits,” according to the article. Planning Director Fred Guerra pointed out that such tax credits have been awarded to developers for two projects to preserve iconic buildings, the redevelopment of the Falls Stamping & Welding Building and “the coming renovation of the old Falls Theatre.” The city “is hoping to stimulate a lot of new development downtown” with these actions.
