An unidentified business is flying cargo through the Wilmington Air Park on a trial basis, and speculation that it could be Amazon has the community hoping the retail giant could be planning to do more business there, the Dayton Daily News reports. Air Transport Services Group (ATSG) chief executive Joe Hete said “his company is flying cargo through the Wilmington Air Park for a client with its Boeing 767 fleet,” but wouldn’t comment whether that client plans to expand beyond the current five flights per day. John Haber, CEO of an Atlanta-based supply chain management consulting firm, said it would make sense for Amazon to use ATSG to fly out of Wilmington, because Amazon wants “more control over the delivery of their freight,” and “[d]elivery capacity has been an issue” for them, according to the article. Amazon is building a strong presence in Ohio; in 2015, the company announced plans to build a data center (see our June 1, 2015 blog post), two distribution centers (see our November 20, 2015 blog post) and a wind farm (see our December 2, 2015 blog post).
