A new solar field to be built northeast of Bowling Green could be the “largest of its kind” in Ohio, generating 20 megawatts (MW) on 145 acres of city land, the Sentinel-Tribune reports. Bowling Green City Council unanimously approved the plan for the American Municipal Power (AMP) project that “had been in the works since early 2015,” but was tabled last year as changes were expected. Originally, AMP planned to own and develop the project, but now will contract with NextEra, a solar developer, to “own and operate the facility,” according to the article. The city plans to use 13.74 MW of the power generated by the project, which is “not expected to increase the city’s power supply costs.” The Toledo Blade reports that NextEra, as a private entity, “is eligible for tax credits that reduce the cost per megawatt.” The Blade article reports that tax credits, renewable energy credits and transmission savings “will bring the cost per megawatt hour down from $85 to $35, according to board of public utilities’ documents.” For more, read the full Sentinel-Tribune and Toledo Blade articles.
