TimberTech, which two months ago received an eight-year, 50 percent tax credit from the state to create 85 new jobs in Wilmington, gave notice last week that it will close its Columbus factory, cutting 58 permanent jobs in Central Ohio, The Columbus Dispatch reports (See our June 11, 2013, blog post for more information). Critics claim that the company was not forthcoming about its Columbus plans in making the Wilmington announcement. Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman and JobsOhio spokeswoman Laura Jones, however, said that the state was aware of TimberTech’s plans to leave Columbus when it offered the Wilmington awards and that the award package prevented the company from leaving the state altogether, the article said.
